"Gatsby? What Gatsby?"

This weekend, I braved the lines alongside many other moviegoers as we experienced the vibrant spectacle that was Baz Luhrmann's rendition of The Great Gatsby. While I found the film slow at times, there is no denying the impeccable artistry and craft of the cinematography, music (click here), costumes, and sets. Expectedly, as my heart is devoted to fashion and style, I could not help but gasp as every Tiffany & Co. diamond, Prada frock, and Brooks Brothers ensemble that flashed before my eyes. The glitzy gals and dapper fellows were outfitted to absolute perfection, and it certainly did not stop at the leading roles seeing as all the extras were equally clad to a tee.

Below are a preview of Miuccia Prada's sketches for her intricate designs...

A video that discusses Tiffany & Co.'s partnership with the film...

...and Prada's partnership...
*Note: by far, the most exquisite look of the entire film was the reincarnated Prada chandelier dress that Daisy wears to the first party she attends at Gatsby's.

...and Brooks Brothers partnership...

All I know is that at this point, I think the easiest way to get myself in these clothes would be to spontaneously become a rather talented actress such that I may be cast in the next screen adaptation of a timeless novel. Good plan? I think so.

Better get to it... xx

Today I feel...

I am moody. Everyone that knows me will attest to the fact that whatever I am feeling, and whenever I am feeling it, I make it known. Perhaps it is rather obvious, though, because when I am sad, happy, anxious, frustrated, or pretty much feeling anything at all, my emotions usually culminate in an outpour of tears. I've learned to embrace the fact that I am that girl that cries all. the. time. However, I don't mean for my sensitive tear ducts to be depicted negatively, as I am definitely not a debbie downer or crabby pants sort of gal. I just can't help it - when the tears start flowin', they keep on flowin'! Now the reason I have embarked on the previous ramblings is because today I stumbled upon the latest items being added to my "when I grow up and can afford to buy myself nice things" wish list. Looky here: Alison Lou's collection of emoticon jewels. I am obsessing over these cleverly adorable gems and just wish I could somehow knock a couple numbers off their price tag! Maybe someday, I will be lucky enough to add these to my personal stock, such that I no longer have to tell people how I am feeling but rather just direct them to my neck, ear, ring or wrist bling. A girl can dream...

P.s. As I sit in Starbucks and write this post, I am feeling like a real blogger: on-the-go, latte in hand, sippin' and typin' like nobody's business. Just in case you were curious...

P.p.s. Update: I just got even more excited by the fact that the video for this collection includes french background music and Jemima Kirke. Could it get any better?

How do U feel 2day? xx

Clutching Reality

A clutch can sometimes be overlooked as it is deemed "too small" to pack full of whatever junk we ladies carry, but for the upcoming summer months, I encourage you all to put said feelings aside and reconsider the pragmatic and stylistic functions of the clutch. Reasons to love em':

1. They're dainty and lightweight. Let's face it, for someone who endures shoulder pain in the name of fashion, opting mostly to carry an oversized bag that weighs heavier on one side of their body, the clutch is an absolute saviour. Consider it... you might discover that less is actually more.

2. Choosing to look at the glass half full, a clutch's miniature size (although they too can be super-sized like any other bag or fast food fries) can be helpful in forcing a lady to downsize the amount of junk she carries. In actuality, we don't always need two lip-glosses, a hairbrush, every medication one could find on a drug store counter, an extra pair of sunnies, a sweater if we're cold, etc. It's true, us women like to be have to be prepared for anything; but, sometimes it can be nice to live in the moment with the few items you've strategically selected to tote and learn to laugh in the moments when we may not be fully equipped.

3. Good things come in small packages, and boy do they ever. Not that a bag can't do the same, but clutches often tend to pack a punch. They may be bite-sized but they are full of flavour, using their pint proportions or sleek nature to make a statement. The dimensions of a clutch juxtapose nicely against an overall outfit to create an appealing contrast worthy of one's attention.

This season in particular, clutches are living up to their name and duty with designers who have put forth an array of styles to suit every occasion. Below are some favourites I've collaged for your browsing pleasure! As I continue to build my collection, I hope you too shall grow yours.
